Good luck finding or affording ammo. Or this. As Boris says; Heavy is good, heavy is reliable. If it does not work, you can always hit them with it.

You could just keep it in a gunsafe/lockbox that you only know the code to.

Yeah that’s a hard one. The lockbox is a good idea just as long as you can hide the key. They are expensive but you can get a decent handgun for a few hundred bucks if you get a 9mm. Of course that’s the hardest ammo to find these days.

  1. If you’re thinking about buying a gun right now, first check out where you would buy ammo locally and see what’s in stock. If you can’t find 9mm but there’s plenty of .45 acp, get a handgun chambered in .45 acp. Maybe everything you’re reading says 9mm is better, but you’re not going to get any advantages from a gun chambered in 9mm if you don’t have any bullets for it. Here are some .45 acp handguns on the cheaper end – Taurus is a good bet for stuff under $400, sometimes under $300.
  2. Buy something cheap – as long as you’re getting it new you can be confident it’ll work for you, and you’ll have a warranty if there are issues. Plus, a $300 gun and $300 of ammo to practice with/have on hand will serve you better than a $600 gun you don’t have the money to ever fire.
  3. Think about what scenarios you might actually use a gun in. How likely is it that you’ll get in a dug-in firefight where you’re shooting 100 bullets in a few minutes at someone across the street? How likely is it that you’ll get in something like a post-Katrina scenario where armed chuds are running checkpoints and doing pogroms? How likely is it that you’ll get in a lethal situation with someone within maybe 25 yards of you? Where are you planning on carrying your gun, and in what circumstances? All of this is going to influence what type of gun will be most useful for you.

762x39 is cheap compared to everything else in the pandemic. About 32 CPR for steel cased ammo. And any AK or SKS style gun is going to work perfectly with steel.

If you need a pistol, probably don’t get a 9mm right now, consider a 22lr with high capacity. 22 is still deadly, it’s not that different from a better caliber, especially if you have like 20 rounds to easily fire into something. 22 does fail to cycle a bit more though.

22lr prices went up, but it’s still dirt cheap. This is especially important if you are a new gun owner. You’ll wanna practice without spending 65 cents a fucking round.

ammoseek.com has generally the best deals readily available.

It doesn’t really help you find the random one-off sales that last like 2 goddamn minutes at the normal pre-covid price. But you’re never gonna get completely fucked either.

For these, I’ve had decent luck (1) finding a sold out type of ammo at a cheap price, (2) signing up for the “notify me when back in stock” option, and then (3) buying when I get an in-stock email.

I really want to pick up a WBP Fox or Zastava ZPAPM70 as a first AK but seems really hard to find one right now
