He has tons of leverage. The Republican base will listen to him first and foremost. Just tweeting out “remember the crooks who took money from your pocket” would give a bunch of GOP politicians hell at reelection time, and he could do even more damage if he chimed in again when 2022 campaigns started up.
Of course, he’d actually have to give a shit to use any of this leverage.
He can do that in 2022 and 2024 but what can he do right now except tweet and scratch his thick juicy ass? Plus, McConnell has won every election since 1985 and I don’t think he’s gonna lose in 2026 over this.
Calling out individual politicians on Twitter, holding rallies in their state, threatening to do shit in 22 or 24 is leverage, if he can convince people he’ll keep it up in 2/4 years. It’s a game of bluff. I’d probably call his bluff if I was any of them, because I don’t think he has the focus, but still leverage.
I mean we’ll see exactly how much he has in a week. He can hold all the rallies he wants but if the choices are between a R and a D, his supporters will definitely choose the R. I don’t see enough of them staying home to change anythjng but maybe I’m wrong.
