Christmas is a consumerist holiday and unironically must go. Everything about the gift giving is designed to push sales of items that otherwise people wouldnt buy. People are encouraged to buy things for other people, but are discouraged from asking that person what they really want, so everyone ends up with a lot of stuff they probably wouldnt buy on their own, and are of lower quality and cheaper to produce than what people buying for themself would get. Someone getting a gift for someone else, and guessing what they want without their input, will rarely get what the person actually wants. Thats a sale made for the corporations where otherwise it wouldnt happen.

Then the returns happen and they get to sell the items again, with the returned sale basically being a sale of shipping services that provide no use to the consumer, with the price being that of the difference between sale price and refund price, only enriching the capitalist.

Capitalists benefit from any economic activity in capitalist society, no matter how futile and wasteful, im surprized there arent corporations whose only activity is to paint the street blue, and cover up the acts of the corpoation that paints the street orange.
