Unpopular opinion but “ego death” is probably just an illusion, sure everything is just one substance but the only way for thought to exist is for distinct regions of this substance to act exactly as they would if they were TRULY separate. And our physical world works like that (on our scale). Consciousness is EVEN CLOSER to a bunch of truly separate entities: no matter how much you believe in the Oneness of everything, you can’t ever access someone else’s inner thoughts, try asking someone to think of a random 5-digit numbers and you’ll almost never guess it right. Eventually the components of consciousness return to other parts of the One Universal Substance, but at that point consciousness DISAPPEARS. Just because you’re glad to have discovered there’s MORE THAN ONE state of consciousness doesn’t mean the one you’ve discovered most recently has to contain all the truth.
