So I was reading about how Ernest Hemingway was going a bit insane later in life. He was getting paranoid. He felt like the FBI was watching him, tracking his every move.

Turns out that’s because they had opened a file on him during WW2. They had an agent tracking him through the 50’s when he was in Havana, and they tracked him when he eventually returned to the USA. :agony-turbo:

Hemingway wrote women poorly and his works have been aesthetically taken up by lots of cool, stoic manchildren, but he wrote in an expertly direct and simple style that didn’t sacrifice subtlety or fail to evoke the most damningly ambiguous yet ever-present feelings of humanity. A Farewell to Arms remains a truly excellent war novel attached to a facile romance.
