i also didn’t know it was problematic / sexist when about women
a lot of the discourse around vocal fry and women originally cropped up in the earlier days of podcasts cuz you’d have these various panels of dudes and one woman and you’d have a bunch of comments and even cases of people directly messaging the women and being like “ugh i can’t fucking STAND her voice.” At least that’s when I remember it being a big thing. Other than the “valley girl”=“airhead” trope of the 80s
