Ugh, I’ve had friends pull this chart (and ones like it) as an argument against some of the ideas in Manufacturing Consent. “The media doesn’t perpetuate the status quo, look at how Objective and Facts based they are!”
that shouldn’t be hard to respond to. The Chart is pseudoscience. It’s a panel of unvettable experts using an unverifiable methodology to compress a few subjective, qualitative assessments into an ostensibly quantitative, objective format. It begs the question that information reliability negatively correlates with deviation from the political center, then produces “data” that indicate exactly that. Ad Fontes and the The Chart literally began as a blog post by a single person. Its popularity isn’t an indicator of its accuracy, but rather of its success in flattering the media regime it purports to analyze.
