I’m being genuine here, some thinks that chacha is an environment for genuine leftist organization while others thinks that this site is just a board to post shit. Forming a consensus around what the purpose of the site is, and developing the site towards that goal will be better for the growth of our community better than any name or any other vanity changes.
I like the vibe we have: we can discuss things from a leftist perspective, get good takes on theory and current events, have causes for mutual aid and organizing promoted, discuss food and mental health, and shitpost. I LOVE not having to talk with nazis; getting to meme, and shitpost, and talk about games and movies and music and not find out halfway through the convo that the person reccomending something or arguing against an aspect of something is doing it because they’re a literal nazi is great.
You don’t get that on r*ddit or twitter or facebook or any other media site besides curated discord servers or whatever because nazis and terfs are allowed there and they sneak into the places that don’t want them. Here we have auto :ban-hammer: for chuds; we don’t need to be dumb debatebros in the marketplace of ideas like many leftist subs do. And for me discord just doesn’t click when there’s lots of people, maybe its my ADD but I cant process any of it for more that 20 to 50 users, on the Arc I could barely follow the super slow megathread.
I think this place is great and has a great vibe, more lemmy federation and more user control with votes would be cool, but honestly I trust a lot of the mod and admin teams. Partially because I’ve seen great takes and theory reccomendations from them, but also because they aren’t trying to direct this into a monetizable thing where an organising hub could become sanitized or coopted, and a shitpost site could devolve into stupidpol, but this weird combination of everything is great and so much harder to wreck.
