I’ll edit my responses here…
A small anecdote here: I read a few days ago that apparently, Alzheimer’s patients get their daily routine and circadian rhythm knocked around by this policy
Edit 2: It’s funny how people are talking about time, as if this were my 2nd post of discussion on why time measurement is bullshit, on my account…
Some memorable replies here:
another point is that it’s probably not great for animals with a strong internal clock
Do not make me get up an hour earlier I will fucking cut you.
On the other hand it is nice the park is open later but have you considered just adequately lighting the park bike paths?
it’s bad and we should commemorate the inventor with a public toilet
On the one hand, it’s disruptive and annoying. On the other hand, it has no practical benefits whatsoever. Hard to say whether it’s good or bad, really.
Why the hell would you be confused on whether it’s good or bad…? You’ve made your decision right there…
It’s not disruptive enough. We should switch to metric while daylight savings is happening and switch back to imperial when it ends. Think of how many jobs would be created by constantly needing to change all the road signs.
Switch to metric time for the duration as well to really shake things up.
Abolish all timezones and move to earth standard time on top of a 13 month calendar.
Thats what you have to look forward to when I’m dictator of the solar system.
You’ll have to fight my duodecimal empire when we abolish the Base-10 system and implement Base-12 like it always should have been.
If we’re going to go to all the effort of switching to a different number base it should obviously be base 16
I can express 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4 super easily. All you pretenders can’t say the same.
I mean I won’t stop you from doing it, but time zones help clear up confusion for me on current regional time… how should I deal with that?
Also thanks for making this post the time as I just looked at the time in the car before I came in and an hour later looked at the time and it was the same.
Basically the only merit to it that I can think of is that it prevents kids from having to walk to school in the dark, but then again that could be remedied by not having school hours be absurdly early in the morning
I don’t really think school hours are that early. At least where I am from none of them start before 7:00. I would have hated them being later because it would mean you get out later
When I was a sleepy 14 year old, having all of those 9am school starts was awful. Making kids go to school at 7am is fucking child abuse.
I always felt way worse in late afternoon and even as a child preferred getting the stuff done so my afternoons could be free because it was hard to focus in them
Hey, aren’t you the person who was saying you and everyone you know is up by 7:30 on weekends so it’s fine to be making lots of noise then?
Get rid of it, changing the clock doesn’t change where the sun is in the sky
