Obviously liberals hate socialists more than fascists, but what exactly is it about the liberal mindset that makes them sympathetic to fascist ideas when push comes to shove? There seems to be some sort of death drive within them.

My two cents is that they trust the institutions of society so much that they would prefer a “strong man” fascist to come and save them than to dare question the sacred institutions that their entire world view relies upon, but I’m just spitballing here.

You ever seen a pet bear? Vicious predator right? However, if it is well feed it is nice. So 99% of the time its a a nice pet. However, when it gets scared or hungry all the dormant predatory instincts come out. Cause deep down, it isn’t tame, it isn’t domesticated, it simply isn’t hungry when you see it being nice.

Two things lie at the heart of liberal ideology: private property and free markets. Their concern with these things is so much greater than anything else that they practically invented fascism. The genocide and reserve system for Native Americans, slavery, violent imperialism were all carried out before anyone even uttered the word fascism and fascists, like Hitler, took inspiration from US projects of nationalism and genocide.

All the other woke projects of Liberalism are secondary.

I don’t even know about the free markets anymore. Plenty of examples of capital intervening to shut down/direct the market when their private property is at risk. Capitalism, as the name implies, is all about capital i.e. private property

Yeah like I said in reply to the other comrade, they say free markets but really they just mean access to markets.

I mostly agree except liberals actually only care about private property.

Ok, fair. “Free markets” for them.

Access to markets let’s call it.

Law and order.

Yes, it’s that simple.

Liberals believe in Bearing Witness To Suffering, not solving it. They are the secular stage of religious piety, as compensation for their position above whichever group they claim to care about

No idea but that quote reminds me of the liberals during Reconstruction who went ape shit at suggestions the federal government use the army to end the pogroms being carried out on southern black communities, because it would be “government tyranny” or whatever to deploy the army against its own people. Of course, they were the first to call for troops to descend on strikers and militant unions.

It’s the Near Enemy vs. the Far Enemy.

They felt the southerners were fellow Americans, the ingroup. The unions were communists and thus The Other. Makes perfect sense when you understand it.
