Maybe it’s just a zoomer thing(which is cool) and I’m a grumpy old man, but I don’t get the whole e-celeb twitch streamer fandom shit.
Especially people who are like hardcore fans of this shit.
To each his own I guess. I’m really just curious of the appeal. If anyone can explain it
Its called depression sweaty
Its a parasocial relationship, simulating playing games with friends.
For me personally, theres three reasons I’m watching a streamer:
- Theyre playing multi-player games with a circle of other streamers with their own personas, usually in genres such as social deduction traitor-mechanic games that I either don’t have enough friends to play myself or my existing friends aren’t interested in.
- Theyre playing high stress single- or multi-player games that I don’t want to subject myself to personally but I want to spectate
- I’m playing another game on my main screen and want to listen to something in the background to which I don’t have to pay much attention
You sit on a couch and watch your friend play video games. Now instead of a friend, it’s someone you have no personal relationship with, and the couch is infinitely larger and filled with bored depressed people, and bots sharing ads and pushing other streams
For me it’s mostly about the personality of the streamer, I enjoy watching a likeable streamer (or streamers) playing a game and making jokes/informing me about the game. Generally though I’ll admit that I’m a massive 30 year old Boomer and much prefer old school style edited Let’s Plays to Streams where the streamer is constantly having to read off donations or whatever.
Also as others have said it makes you feel like you’re interacting with other people lmao
