No one has ever explained the difference well so I’ve always assumed they are the same thing and so far I’ve been correct. Literally anyone I’ve ever met who calls themselves a “patriot” is a nationalist.
americans desperately trying to pretend their patriotism is Stalin’s definition of nationalism and not the fascist or bourgeois definition
Nationalism is actually just the bad stuff, patriotism is [put the exact reasoning people use to justify the bad stuff here].
When I was 14 I talked about that and luckily had a sociologist friend who gave me stuff to radicalize me. Turns out the studies done show that there is no difference between nationalism and patriotism. If a person says they are either of it on average their opinion in regard to othering others, to violence against other nations, violence against refugees, antisemitism, racism, the right to expropriate other nations etc. the likelihood of violence against women etc. are the same.
There is no good patriotism.
As a Good Leftist, am I not allowed to eat a vegan hot dog on the Fourth of July? :Bwaaa: :liberty-weeping:
Fourth of July? You mean the official holiday of Makin’ Shit Explode AND I Just Want To Grill guys?
Fourth of July is unironically my favorite holiday it fucking rocks. Christmas gets spoiled by the religiosity the way my family celebrates but there’s no America worship at our fourth parties.
