Not a new design, but a new revision using a different chip that is easier to source but has the same performance profile as the launch revision. The end user won’t notice any difference, but the intention is to increase production output and reduce the scalping incentive.

there’s only a shortage of PS5s due to demand
the console itself is being produced at rates higher than the PS4 was during the respective period
so when people stop wanting the PS5 it’ll become easy to get

no idea how demand will shake out that far ahead, but I’m getting flashbacks to the Wii which was sold out everywhere for like three years straight
