We’re getting closer to the Bell Riots of 2024 every day.
california is the kingdom of death
edit: i mean this literally, it is a palpably evil place, it is where the empire realized its mortality manifested its death drive and dreams all new horrors
Singling out specific states, especially California, as being uniquely evil (it’s not) in our overall godforsaken country is just the leftist version of Tucker Carlsons California collapse fear mongering. Gives me like lib “why do we support the south even though they’re all racists” vibes. But alas, this take never fails to slap in boomer and online left circles so get your clout bag my guy.
CA’s got a shit ton of work to do - as does this shite country as a whole, but it’s probably got the biggest potential for leading a working class movement. Shit, if it wasn’t for CA Bernie would’ve done like klobuchar #'s in 2020.
Disagree. California has deeply toxic politics and is filled with libertarian ghouls that actively make the world a worse place. This is the proving ground where they passed prop 22 which destroys labor protections and is now being copy + pasted in other states.
The biggest potential for leading a working class movement? I’m not so sure – teachers are a big union here and they seem to constantly be on the back foot. I guess the dockworker’s union is powerful too, but it’s hard for me to envision a big labor movement coming out of CA.
As for the Bernie thing? I think it’s plainly clear that Bernie-ism is wholly inadequate to the social and ecological problems we face. It would barely be a step in a good direction, so I can’t empathize with the excitement that CA pulled for Bernie then pioneered the “Put the Homeless in Concentration Camps” initiative.
If you haven’t already read it, the fantastic modernist novel The Day of the Locust is about exactly that: California as the place where the frontier ended and hope curdled into something monstrous
hold the fuck up, the film adaptation has Donald Sutherland playing a character named Homer Simpson
That’s the origin of the name! Simpsons writers were a bunch of Ivy League nerds
We need a burning LA/CA flag emoji.
