I’ve played Democracy 3 and used sliders to eliminate the capitalists but couldn’t sieze their property. I’ve won the civil war as CSA in Kaiserreich but then the war was over. Both of these feel kind of hollow.

Is there any game where I can build a communist utopia? Any genre is fine

Dwarf Fortress.

You can switch to a market system but it fucks everything up.

Yep.

Though the reasons it fucks everything up are pretty inaccurate. It’s a fixed price economy with no supply and demand, plus dwarves don’t know how to keep their gold in a purse, so everything melts down so fast there’s no time to form an entrenched wealthy capital class and an exploitable labor class.

In Diablo 3, you literally slay (possibly capitalist) ghouls, and all of your money and resources are collectivized between your characters. You can also dual-wield a hammer and sickle.

…other than being able to make an inverted-pentagram Chinese flag-esque graphic for your banner, that’s about as far as I can sell it as having left-wing focus, unfortunately.

Yeah, that little speech you head gives you about how Communism is the philosophy of failure hit hard. Like the game keeps making out you’re doomed, the unions are corrupt grifters, the workers are just awful, the students are a bunch of idiotic libs, and everyone thinks you killed 11 bazillion people. You have no chance.

But you’re still the only thing even resembling good guys.

Stellaris let’s you do a shared burden civic at empire creation so you can literally make a galaxy wide space USSR. Also since the game has fascists you can attack fascists which is a plus.

god fucking damnit, i’m about 10 hours into my first game and i’m sad i didn’t see that civic since i also picked fantatic egalitarian. On the plus side, i helped slaves revolt in slave-owning empires so that’s something i guess. Next time though, :lenin-fancy:

You should be able to get a third civic eventually from society research. Don’t let your dreams be dreams

Get the Civics and Ethics+ and Government Variety Pack mods. Vanilla is lackluster in this regard

The only reason I started playing Outer Worlds was because “space communism” was in a description I read.

god the politics of that game disappointed so much. i loved the game but the whole “replace megacorporate technocratic rule with center-right liberalism” fucking sucked. and the actual anarchists were basically religious nuts and knew no theory.

Same, disappointing how they go “muh both sides bad” about most of the radicals when the corporations are doing x100 evil shit. In the first city

spoiler

alternatives are between the corporation that’s literally letting people die if they get a cold, or nice commune. Except the nice commune are using dead bodies as compost for food and that’s supposed to be somehow be Just As Bad. And at the end of the game it’s like “yeah the commune just let a bunch of city folk die, damn really makes u think” but it’s like, yeah but the other guys would have wiped out commune and continued polluting the environment with their shitty food and letting people die if they colds so like, is it really both sides bad. And it’s even more egregious on.

Still overall a fun game, but yeah it’s super rad lib.

There are some ethics that allow you to be a communist in Stellaris.
