nah do it like Alexandra Kollontai suggested and build centralized municipal laundry facilities that use HUGE washers and dryers so it’s way more efficient. just imagine how nice it would be to have the socialist city mailman drop off your clean laundry free of charge* every week.

Its a little hard to dry clothes outside in a rainy humid climate. I once dried clothes overnight in a -20 below situation, clothes were stiff, had a layer of wet and smelled like freezer. Other than that they were ok but dryers have their use. Maybe cheaper communal laundry mats that are well maintained with better hours?
