South Park has always been really bad and featured a racist caricature of Osama bin Laden. Honestly it’s hard to express the reach that South Park had when there was basically zero pushback to all the bigoted edgelord humor. If you objected to it, that just meant that you “didn’t get it.” Like in that era, it was more acceptable to dislike South Park because you thought it was “crass” or “disgusting” just to depict trans people at all, than to object to it for being transphobic, and it was many people’s only exposure to the idea of trans people, at that :doomjak:
On a lighter note, here’s Stormtrooper 9/11 from 2009, not exactly in the same vein, but I remembered it trying to think of stuff.
YOOOOOO. I haven’t written about this but my brother, who gives me constant anxiety attacks when he describes his life in ATL, came to visit during Father’s Day weekend. He logged into HBOMAX and showed us the coronavirus special from South Park and it was not funny. Like, Randy just jacking off into marijuana to provide a cure. While also being patient 0 because him and Mickey fucked a Pangolin. Like…?! These are the deranged thoughts of someone who only reads news headlines and tries to form a coherent sentence.
He is cracking up and looking back at us like “it’s funny right? this is funny!” and I’m just…tired. The show made me physically tired. I think the only funny part was the cops beating children to go back to school. Like a spot-on satire of the industrial punishment complex. Everything else was just…meh.
