it fits in to the “new style coop” model that has cropped up, where they have the name of “cooperative” but there are unequal members with disproportionate decision making power. i personally do not think the new style cooperatives are actually cooperatives and it’s more of a branding scheme for a strong individuals/organizations to assert control over their nominal “partners”, but let them retain some symbolic autonomy.

in the New Day Coop (the fictional coop in The Wire), they all shared the resource of the “main stem/connect” which was heroin coming in through shipping containers coordinated by The Greek. the dealers used the organization to settle turf disputes (market channels) and prices. it was fairly brilliant, except for the part where someone (Stanfield) who didn’t care about using violence or how shitty their product was (was using some stepped on shit they got from elsewhere) could muscle everyone else out and monopolize the premium corners.

it was a clever demonstration that economic power, regardless of any foolish ideals, truly flows from the ability to sanction violence.

and, more on topic, i totally would have kept minutes but scrambled them somehow. minutes are tedious but can be invaluable.
