John Brown would have gotten along well with George Jackson, who believed that the proletariat were to be found in this nation’s prisons.

George is the reason that Marxist literature is banned in most prisons. It’s banned because he lead an armed insurrection and killed prison guards.

There’s a lot of overlap between these two. I wish Van Spronsen had been able to organize more comrades to help him. To be fair, the complexity of doing something like this has increased in the modern age thanks to the security state.
