If the /r/animemes mods had half this level of confidence with the way they approached their operation to remove the t-slur things would have gone quite differently. Had they just gone on an absolutely authoritarian banning spree of every single complainer it could have been nipped in the bud. Be completely unapologetic about it.
Instead they showed weakness, the mob (and the wider net of hate communities) smelled blood and set about a non-stop relentless attack.
Such a shame. I hope they get their confidence back and learn from it. Being weak in the face of oppressors does not work.
You’re 100% right. Going half-way on these things gives them the “oppression” and “authoritarianism” they need to continue their persecution complex while doing nothing to actually limit and discourage hate and ideology like their’s on the internet.
