Maybe this is a bad take but personally I believe banning the word cracker is not a bad idea. Otherwise I think twtich users would eventually come up with a similar “biscuit word” aimed at black people and create tons of emotes about it that they can spam whenever a black person is on stream.

Maybe I’m giving twitch too much credit though and they didn’t think about this at all…

I don’t think you can stop gamer chuds with way too much on their hands from creating new racist dogwhistles

That’s true but at least this way you preemptively take away a bunch of right wing talking points about how both cases are totally equivalant and how twitch is engaging in white genocide by allowing words like cracker while banning slurs against black people.

This is a losing battle. You can’t defeat fascists in the Marketplace of Ideas™, by the time you’re done “taking away” those talking points they’re already ten more talking points ahead of you. Everything a fascist says is disposable, they’re not attached to any argument.

Surprise! They have a hundred more manufactured grievances they will proceed to loudly fill their diapers about

I take issue with the cracker slur anyway because didn’t it come from slavery and how slave masters would crack the whip? Like “cracker” in a roundabout way gives power back to white people, it’s saying you hold the keys of power and enforce them. Or am I overthinking this?

The disgraced sex pest Louis CK had a great bit that was literally this. “Oh no you called me a cracker, that brings me back to when we had all the money and power!” :michael-laugh:

Use present tense, if those refugees who got whipped are any indication.

Apparently that’s not where cracker came from- in one of the recent threads someone linked some sources about its etymology.

No, and I didn’t look into it at the time either- I’d google it but I just don’t want to wade through a billion articles and reddit posts about the current cracker controversy :yes-honey-left:

People who get upset over cracker also get made fun of for eating beans in the movie theater.
