I’ll live and die a boomer about this shit. If this shit catches on before i’m thrust into the labor market from college, I’m gunning straight for a socially essential IRL job like waste management that will take one hell of a grift to move into the metaverse. Fuck web3, fuck digital “assets”, fuck intellectual property, fuck facebook, fuck the entire concept. I have principles surrounding tech and privacy, and unlike my views on the path to communism, I am extremely inflexible on them.
Only metaverse I’ll ever step foot in given the chance is the cool one :reeducation:
I feel like a boomer for having no social media, but at the same time, I’m glad I don’t because I have no personal info for people to dox me on out there.
Fuck the metaverse. It will be flooded with old people anyway just like facebook so you’ll probably be less of a boomer for not using it.

It will be linkedin for shitty techbro millenials
The worst kind of millennial, and as a millennial I’m allowed to say that
I feel like a boomer for having no social media
Umm I hate to break it to you, but…
It won’t be flooded with old people have you met old people that’s like predicting that NFT’s will take off among the elderly it’s too many layers of techno-stupid for them.
Metaverse is exactly the kind of thing the elderly will take to if the tech is made user friendly, just like Facebook. They’re largely unemployed and many have mobility issues, the exact perfect audience for any kind of entertainment.
It’s really not the elderly have a noted reluctance to adopt new technologies especially ones that require radical adjustments
I’m just assuming it will be boomer friendly because its made by Facebook guy, but yeah you’re probably right.
If the metaverse takes off to the greatest extent actually possible, here’s what you’ll miss out on by ignoring it:
-
A bunch of corporate shlock entertainment (prestige television, Marvel movies) (which you can also pirate)
-
Some fucking awful MMO (you can’t pirate the actual thing but there will be pirate servers, and they’ll be way more fun than the real thing)
-
A handful of online parties that insist on being in the fucking awful MMO, but they’re all hosted by losers who can’t throw good parties
-
The esteem of some prestige-chasing dweebs
-
So many scams
-
Getting to watch the collapse of the metaverse from the front row
And I think that’s a full list.
I actually think it is going to take off, in a sense. But it’s going to be like the entire media establishment shouting about how important this is, and an awful lot of money being poured into it, but nothing in terms of actual importance to people’s lives. Like, maybe 5% of the actual user base of, say, Roblox.
I’ll honestly don’t think the meta verse is gonna take off, No… what turbo nerds want is sword art online matrix shit not this shitty boring 90’s ass vr we have had before, I honestly think this is just another sign of the times trying to plaster over the climate reality we are about to be balls deep in mean while the vr goggles on the market to even experience vr are clunky and shit hyper expensive at a time where Mircochips are to varying degrees hard to come by at best. I guess what im trying to say is the concept of a meta verse at the point in time is remarkablely detached from the reality of world and hell even the captlist supplie chain
I’m gunning straight for a socially essential IRL job like waste management that will take one hell of a grift to move into the metaverse
I would advise you to read Bullshit Jobs. Generally, the more socially essential a job is, the less it pays, the worse the conditions, and the more you will be treated like a leech.
