I finished Dragon Republic and started Burning God a fantasy trilogy by R. F Kuang.
I am listening to 1919 a book of Poems by Eve L. Ewing a sociologist and poet from Chicago.
I started All About Love by bell hooks (rest in power ✊)
I need to catch up on Dawn of Everything. I was doing the audiobook and it got returned >_>.
Reading blackshirts and reds. Currently have a stack of books I pretend to read but never do
Taking a break from theory and trying to read all of the discworld books. I am on number 4 right now.
Took a break from US labor history to start David Glantz’s Stalingrad tetraology because I’ve been in a WWII mood lately
Finally starting to read the Three Body Problem. It’s a very good story, but

It feels pretty reactionary in its outlook. The protrayal of the Trisolarans in particular could have come straight out of a China Bad Evil Authoritarian CCP reddit thread. I don’t know Liu’s personal politics, his level of wealth or his family history, but the way the book is written reminds me a lot of the works of Warsaw Pact liberal intellegencias who bemoaned the lack of “liberty” in the Soviet sphere after World War 2.
Reading it years a go I got the impression that it was curious yet apolitcal in the sense that ideas were applied in a non partisan manner.

You could also argue that the Trisolarans are the Americans whose inevitable invasion causes earth (china) to try weird political solutions. But then again the Sophons could also be a stand in for a ‘great chinese firewall’ (even if on our side we can equally interpret it as fintech)
I think part of it is embellished for the main motivation of one of the bad guys. Have you finished it? There’s also this interpretation that it represents Sino-American relations.
