Yeah, there were a lot of false “bin Laden is dead” stories back then. Hard to tell how many of them were disinformation, how many were CIA ops, and how many were just journalists printing whatever they heard without verification.
He was dying of kidney failure in a fortified mountain compound at one point. We even had a detailed drawing of how the Taliban might construct a multi-storey evil lair in a mountain.
That mountain lair looked fucking lit. Dude probably had every video game console down there and his own McDonalds

My thoughts exactly…it seems to be generally accepted that Bin Laden had a lot of serious health complications but like…I saw an article today about how kim jong un was stumbling down stairs so it kinda feels like there’s a playbook for some of this stuff. …I’m also personally not entirely convinced he didn’t die years before Operation Neptune Spear though.
Bin Laden was actually patient zero of COVID. He was so evil that the COVID demons were able to posses him. He did in fact die in 2001, and when he made appearances later, it was actually the COVID demons reanimating his corpse. The demons were released when he was killed again in 2011, but they couldn’t produce a corpse because he crumbled to dust like a vampire when the demons left. This second death actually allowed the demons to escape into the world and caused COVID to start spreading to others, but it was covered up/contained for years before the demons started gaining strength.
