Guess they didn’t ask the crypo miners nicely enough.

Funniest part is that some did

Industrial-scaled Bitcoin mining facilities in Texas told Gov. Greg Abbott they are powering down during this winter storm as a precaution.

One of the largest facilities in North America is Riot Whinstone. It’s located in Rockdale, just an hour north of Austin. The facility uses enough power to power a large city.

What the fuck, Whinstone uses 200-ish MW currently?? And they plan to scale to 750??? And there’s SEVERAL of these???

Most power plants output around 500…I work for a utility, 200 MW would be about 3% of our total generation right now, with several plants operating near capacity due to extreme cold; 750 would be > 10%

This is some absolute Fern Gully shit. It’s extremely blackpilling that this stuff is going on and no one in power is even thinking about putting a stop to it.

Good luck trying to ban this shit too, they’ll instantly turn fascist/violent, if they weren’t already

You’d be forgiven for thinking that preparing for CHUDs to become violent would be extremely easy, and presumably the only thing that the American state can actually deal with. Because as we saw with BLM, the American state has killed off most of its ability to do litterally anything, aside from committing gruesome acts of violence.

I know this is small potatoes compared to all of the people without heat, but I humbly ask you guys to keep the Texas fishkeeping community in your thoughts during all of this. There’s a lot of endangered aquatic life in the area and many of these species are being preserved entirely by hobbyists. It would be a shame if we lost the chance to reintroduce some of these populations into their natural environments due to mass filter failure or something dumb like that.

You could run most aquariums off a decent power inverter for a car battery. They’re probably already gone off the shelves

And Texas has it’s own, completely batshit insane electrical grid and market that makes it even more vulnerable than the rest of the US.

This happened last year and the Texan Senator responded by fleeing to Cancun. Hundreds died. Hundreds of billions in damages. What does he tweet yesterday?

[Inflation is out of control.

Gas prices are ⬆️

Food prices are ⬆️

Lumber prices are ⬆️

And tickets to Cancun are up 32%!](https://twitter.com/tedcruz/status/1488887563830104071?t=dSaXJH3YalxyLYpSwo0Kew&s=19)

Incredibly country :free-real-estate:

Maybe I’m petty but I really don’t think he actually came up with that punchline. Still, that’s an alpha move from him and kudos to whoever came up with the joke.
