Just skimmed this, but this raises my bullshit flag. Being proximate to neuroscience briefly, I came to the conclusion that all “brain as a quantum computer” so far is wishful thinking. It is mostly just “Quantum Computers are more special than normal computers, brains are more special than normal computers. Maybe the reasons brains are special and have consciousness is that it is quantum!” and then working backwards to some extremely flimsy mechanism for quantum computing in the brain.
i used to be interested in the “quantum theory of consciousness” that i think penrose and some other guy proposed. basically random particle effects happening inside microtubules on neurons were contributing to neuron firing patterns. pretty sure it’s been somewhat debunked.
Yeah, that was the main one I had in mind. There are others that mostly just point at nuclear spins can go several seconds without decohering in molecules in neurons and came up with these being passed between neurons by chemical reactions. But that one never seemed too fleshed out.
Everything is quantum mechanics. Stop using “quantum mechanics” to mean “mysterious thing we should be reverent of.” You use quantum mechanics to take a shit.
For a second I thought that said “hallucinates death” and I was like no no no no no please I need my death to be real otherwise I’ll never escape work
Whoever wrote this has no idea what a quantum computer is
