Hasn’t yet really lived up to the first episode but the third is better than the second. Serious potential here.

I really like the in-your-face racial politics, dig a lot of the acting, and they do a great job with the spooky setting. I’m a little disappointed with a lack of building suspense or world-building though. The show seems to jump from event to event with very little denouement or exploration of what the consequences of those events may be. I get that it’s been adapted from a book of short stories, but it just seems a little frantic at times. Glad it’s getting some traction though!

Jordan Peele is involved, right? Get Out was absolutely phenomenal, and while Us wasn’t quite as good, the strong class themes really pulled me through the movie. It’s really great to have some socially conscious horror that’s also very we excecuted, considering how reactionary the genre can get at times. Dude’s obviously very smart, but I think he’s got a bit of the lib brain, follows Lincoln Project on twitter.

Looks like he’s a co-creator and executive producer, definitely going to have to put this higher on my priority. I’m also going to drop a video link that anyone interested in the topic of Lovecraft and the contradiction of so many people he’d hate loving his art: Outsiders: How to Adapt Lovecraft in the 21st Century

Second episode had me unsure of it’s lovecraftian inspiration though it was still good horror. This most recent episode not only erase any such doubts but also has me even more hooked.

The kid that asked if he was going to have a good trip is 100% a reference to Emmett Till.

I also felt a lot of horror at the van ride, it reminded me of the death of Freddie Gray.

Just want to drop the classic “if you like the show you should check out the book.” I just got done reading it and it slaps

Honestly every episode feels rushed due to the format – a unique story every episode.
