Most new memes are completely inscrutable to me, probably because I don’t use much social media anymore besides Hexbear. But I still feel nostalgic for memes like this and other memes that were popular when I was in high school

I think Dat Boi and “it is Wednesday my dudes” are really like the only two meme formats I really never got sick of offhand.

The guy who made the Wednesday my dudes videos made a clownworld video lol. He took it down later hopefully bc he found out it was cryptofash shit and not bc he is cryotofash and just buckled from push back

dat boi came right after my personal favorite meme, the “Don’t talk to me or my son ever again”.

dat boi was the perfect meme, completely untethered from reality and all that came before or after. It defied historical materialism. However, it was an extremely dangerous substance and should be handled very carefully by only the most terminally online of people. I will never forget how it destroyed Post Aesthetics in 2016.

Lol this reminded me around this time is when I was on Reddit a lot and they arbitrarily decided Imgur was a platform for untermensch. They’d always be talking shit about comments under Imgur posts like Reddit was/is any better lol

From my hazy memory of that time period I think I remember the problem being that imgur users did not know which posts were simply hosting images for reddit threads and so they’d end up in the comments of the imgur post all confused, sometimes hostile to the person who posted the image, not understanding it wasn’t for them.

Imgur was literally founded by a Redditor to host images for Reddit, but eventually Reddit started hosting its own images and Imgur started having its own comment sections. It’s carcinization - every website eventually becomes cancer.
