HOAs are necessary in a condo/apartment-you-own situation. There has to be for general upkeep.

It’s just a co-operatively owned structure that needs some co-operation to maintain. Perfectly logical.

An intentional community could theoretically structure itself through an HOA and do neat things if it wanted.

This is secretly my plan…I’ve joined the HOA to sow the seeds of…gasp…direct democracy! I will make every last one of these WASP mother fuckers RUE the day they decided to bitch about how shitty the neighborhood is on facebook but then refuse to actually do anything about it

Time to :vote: bitches

No way. Suburbs need to pay for their own shit like roads, street lights, and recreation areas. Stop leeching off tax dollars.

HOAs are more about enforcing that your lawn is made up of nothing but grass and forcing you to spend loads of money and time and water maintaining it so that they can have their delusions of the american dream.

It’s really only about destroying anything which could conceivably threaten their property values. HOAs are the personification of commoditized housing.

taxes shouldn’t pay for roads, lights, recreation areas.

But the HOAs aren’t about that IIRC, the HOAest of suburbs still leech the city tax dollars

An HOAs primary goal is to pay for repair and upkeep of common property and it’s usually set up by the builder in agreement with the city for infrastructure benefits. Most HOAs are underfunded so when the private roads become defunct they try to turn over the roads to the city. The city will usually try to negotiate a park out of them or set up an easement if there is a developable property near by. It’s great for the few dozen people who live in the suburbs but a huge waste of tax money.

AntiHOA-aktion. Could make a bunch of white middle class people have different feelings about antifa if they see antifa fighting the hoa.
