Scully saves Mulder’s ass far more often than the reverse and tends to take a much more methodical and tactical approach to any given situation. She also is portrayed as the more level headed of the two which is obvious because she is the skeptic foil to Fox I-Want-To-Believe Mulder, but she’s never treated as ignorant or flippant in her skepticism and occasional dismissal of Mulder’s tendency to jump to conclusions, and the show always ends with her thoughtful analysis of whatever case they are working on.
It is an inversion of the “irrational woman/rational man” trope, but idk if I can give it full credit, because Mulders quest still feels like an appeal to certain male-coded archetypes, in a “man struggles against society to uncover hidden truths” way.
and even though Scully is coded as the skeptical scientist and Mulder is the pseudoscientific flake, in the universe of the show his inclinations are ultimately correct.
But then all the faith stuff complicates it a bit.
But Scully was literally abducted and microchipped, she should probably just get with the program
Is the show good to watch today? Been thinking about it.
I’m a big fan of the dichotomy of her science and logic based reasoning coupled with her religious faith. Meanwhile Mulder believes anything and everything under the sun someone tells him but doesn’t get Scullys religious convictions. Absolute good shit ___
I’m pro x-files and I’m not saying it’s problematic but neither is it enlightened that the woman character is there to tell the man no. It’s like Skyler saying “I get to be the b*** mom again” because she won’t let Walt rock.
I DO appreciate how sexless their partnership is. ‘Hey Scully’s got the goods, what if the monster tears her clothes off a little bit’. We’re lucky the show wasn’t in other’s hands.
Mulder is definitely the fun parent. Scully is the one the judge makes you live with.
