I really doubt it setting yourself up as a warlord is difficult and America isn’t dysfunctional to the point of allowing random people to take over portions of the country. If nothing else stopping them would provide a justification to fund the police more
What’s the difference between a warlord and a sheriff in some of these small towns where the federal government has so receded it’s basically let go of the territory? And what’s the difference in 20 more years of decay?
lots of things including taxes still going to the federal/state government, the fact that if the federal/state government told them to do something or tried to get rid of them (unlikely scenario but still) they wouldn’t respond with a shootout, the big one would probably be that sherifs are elected
