I know they’re out there, I know there’s way more sports-following leftists than sportsball folk but holy shit, it’s impossible to discuss sports on reddit in r/soccer or r/nba lest you get severe chud/liberal brain worms.
IRL pickup games are an easy way to make friends with non chuds but I are there any sports spaces on the internet that at least more left leaning?
I have this problem too, there’s basically no where to discuss sports with leftists. But I can understand why; the mass commercialisation of every sport and how profit always comes first really makes it difficult to watch. Like if I’m planning to watch an NBA game, I’ll turn it on during the 3rd quarter and play from the start, and I’ll end up catching up to the game by the last few minutes of the 4th.
Anybody who used to be connected to Deadspin normally has pretty good takes. I’ve found the comment sections on Secret Base, and basically any Jon Bois video to be pretty good. Otherwise it’s always hit or miss. Lotta guys were into bagging on China during COVID but have backed off since.
Other than c/sports which is pretty much dead, I have no idea. Tbh I just talk to the guys over on reddit, and yell at them for being racist when they are. As an avid UFC/MMA fan, my god, they have to be the absolute worst fans of any sport though.
This doesn’t really answer your question, but I like saying it so I’m gonna repeat it here too.
Sports media conditions viewers to identify with the owners rather than the players. (especially fantasy sports). So lots of the ‘sports’ places online are full of people talking about what they’d do if they owned a team rather than people looking to form a pickup league.
I thought r/soccer was fairly mixed? Like you’ll get galaxy brain takes as usual, but also wouldn’t be downvoted for shitting on owners/supporting palestine and stuff
