He was supposedly the inspiration for General Ripper in Dr. Strangelove, a movie which in hindsight looks like a very gentle parody

It looks like a glowing comedy if anything. The shit that went on in the late 50s and early 60s is fucking in-sane. It’s a miracle we survived without a nuclear war. God knows this bastard and his friends tried many many times to start it. Literally stating they wanted to start it first, despite by this time already knowing the soviets were way way weaker and only concerned with defending themselves.

Ya, in some respects real life was weirder than the film. Edward Teller, for instance, who’s at least part of thr Dr. Strangelove character, wanted to develop a bomb big enough that you didn’t have to drop it out of a plane or put it in a missile, you just detonate in your own country and it kills people on the other side of the world as well as your own people. This is a serious respected scientist, the guy who invented the hydrogen bomb. Absolutely nuts.

I want to drop my fist on that chauvinist’s corn-cob-studded face! Making that asshole delete his account was the only good thing Truman ever did.

He wanted to nuke the entire east coast of China with literally dozens of a-bombs.

Edit: Read about this crazy otherfucker https://nationalinterest.org/blog/the-buzz/one-americas-most-legendary-generals-had-terrifying-plan-win-21563 "“The enemy’s air would first have been taken out. I would have dropped between 30 to 50 tactical atomic bombs on his air bases and other depots strung across the neck of Manchuria from just across the Yalu at Antung (northwest tip of Korea) to the neighborhood of Hunchun (northeast tip of Korea near the border of the USSR).

“That many bombs would have more than done the job! Dropped under the cover of darkness, when his planes were in for the night, they would have destroyed his air force on the ground, wiped out his maintenance and his airmen. …"

These psychos were committed to ruling the Earth, even if it meant turning vast stretches of it into radioactive craters.

And then they realized they could rule the Earth without firing a shot with… NEOLIBERAL~ CAPITALISM~

The New World Order declared global victory when the Soviet Union fell.

Wonder how LeMay reacted when his SAC started losing many of their precious B-29s to the Soviet’s best flying Mig 15s.

(Fun fact, the first jet on jet kill in history was a pair of USAF F80’s shot down by Mig 15s, however the US claimed them as missing (Or shot down by AAA) while the first US claim on a jet came several days later and de-classified Russian reports show the aircraft returned to base with little damage. Source: Osprey’s Aircraft of the Aces ‘Mig 15 Aces over Korea’ which if you have an interest in the Korean Air War is a must.

Also Footnote 2, At least the top 2 aces (Possibly 3) of the Korean War flew under the Red Star.

Another even funner story of the Mig 15 in Korea is that of April 12, 1951 or ‘Black Thursday’ as the Americans called it, where 30 Mig 15s attacked 48 B29 Bombers escorted by around 100 F-80 Shooting Star and F84 Thunderjet fighters and shot down 3 B29s and damaged 7 more with no losses of their own (The USAF however had a habit of claiming that aircraft too severely damaged to fly again or that crashed as a result of battle damage suffered ‘Mechanical failures’ or ‘Landing Accidents’. Soviet sources claimed 12 B29 kills, however both sides had a habit of overclaiming victories.)

The USAF ceased all B29 raids for 3 months, and even after restarting raids only flew in small numbers at night. The Soviets gave the B29 the nickname ‘The Burning Barn’ as a result of their operations against them.

As an actual fun footnote, this may have also reduced the risk of nuclear war, as the US command MUST have realized that there was no way in hell an unescorted B-29 would be able to reach its target in Russia without getting slaughtered.
