I can’t recall the last time I had a dream, and I can’t recall any nightmares I had in detail. But I’ve been told that as a child I experienced night terrors and would wake up the entire house with my screaming.
I’ve had a few of the standard ones over the years: can’t stop the vehicle your driving, teeth crumbling or similar, being chased and unable to fight back effectively, realizing you are not wearing pants or similar, etc.
The one that really freaked me out was one where I had a high powered semi-auto rifle for some reason, and I shot some ‘bad guys’ at night out on the street somewhere. Then one of my close relatives suddenly appeared and I shot them too almost just by reflex. They didn’t seem to be that upset by it, but it was very realistic in the dream, seeing the bullet wounds on them that were seemingly quite likely to be fatal. It quickly just became that intense panic feeling, like I fucked up big time! I killed my close relative! I’m a terrible evil person, and everyone is going to know it!
I woke up shortly after watching them die in front of me. I was in a total panic sweat in bed. I had to contact my relative in the middle of the night just to reassure myself. Then I eventually fell asleep again, but not until after being wound up for a while asking myself ‘WTF was that shit?!?!’
One of the earlier dreams I remember was of being stuck on a train, and I knew it was doomed to crash, but there was no exit door or window I could get out through, and nobody else was taking me seriously.
One from recently was that I dreamed my good friend and comrade, who had been the most cautious of all of us about the plague, caught it and died. I bawled my eyes out for the rest of the dream, and remembered the dream only when I next heard from him in waking life and reflected on how glad I was that he’s alive.
I had a vivid fucking dream when I was sick with covid that had some sort of hell suburb a la Wrinkle in Time. There was one house with the most terrifying monster that was a dark green half-face, and the rest of it was just sludge. Sludge and dirt and flesh. It covered the house. I was with people, IDK who they were, but we were sent there. There was another person there keeping us in the house, one that never seemed to end. I ran but I couldn’t move
I couldn’t move
