Big mouth has the ugliest art style ever. “Oh it’s intentional, it supports the themes” don’t care I hate looking at those characters
I don’t know what it is about western cartoons but almost all of them are the ugly as hell. I blame the Simpsons, but also early Nickelodeon shows like the Rugrats.
No dude Simpsons and Rugrats are beautiful shows. Big Mouth seems to be running at the wrong framerate.
Rugrats is awful. The characters are all lumpy, and the color palette is puke.

I will say at the very least it is an art style where I can see that someone made a decision to make it look like that.
I’m sorry but every image Ive seen of Inside Job just looks like it came out of a big conveyor belt in the animation factory, I’m sure it has good writing or else people wouldnt be raving about it, but I forget about it 5 seconds after I look away from its advertising.
Big Mouth looks horrific but if every trace of it was erased tomorrow I would still get flashes of memory about it in a decade or so.

This might ruffle some feathers, I didn’t realize Inside Job was a separate show from Rick & Morty until Hexbear started talking about it. I’ve seen clips and advertising for Inside Job and never realized.
It’s gotta get a name, that light adobe flash-y style rick and morty, inside job, solar opposites (although that is roiland too), more common in kids shows like gravity falls, etc. There used to be an aesthetic thing that made older demo aimed shows look like Ugly Americans and Super Jail and Squidbillie, etc.
It’s all data driven. All they care about is views and buzz around their product. Unlike traditional TV they have a direct feedback loop into who is watching what and when, how long they watch, which parts are skipped, retention rates per season, what their hit rate is for recommendations, and so on and so forth.
This informs how they produce shows, and is why the “two season curse” is a thing. Very few shows are safe. If it underperforms (or if the production team wants to unionise), it’s getting the axe. Conversely if the show is awful or started good/decent and is declining but brings in the views and subscribers, it’s going to live a long life at Netflix.
If they could monitor your gaze to plot where your eyes are looking per scene they would.
I like Big Mouth. It’s mostly lib shit, but there’s much worse on Netflix.
i can’t figure how any decisions are made and it seems like most of the stuff i am completely enchanted by is stuff that other people find stupid or pointless.
there is so much absolutely formulaic, anodyne pablum that goes on for so many seasons, but many shows i find intriguing never get a second season to just wrap things up neatly. it’s a fine line though, sometimes a show has a great little 1-3 season set of arcs, but then it gets picked up for many more and has to find some way to make infinite sausage… which is disappointing. i am far more likely to give the “Limited Series” a chance. there are so many damn options though, compared to the days of cable and being locked into live TV schedules.
some times i think we are in a golden age of the series as an art form and other times i think we are in that plastic trash gyre in the pacific, hallucinating from ingesting too much sea water and microplastics.
i also do not understand the affection and interest people have for true crime documentaries. that’s like Real Housewives of Buffalo tier TV. and fucking A, it seems like it’s like 30% of new content.
They use completion rate. If a bunch of people start watching a show but don’t finish it, it gets canned.
