The conspiracy is that they want to sell the gas that would otherwise have been used in the sacred gas stoves that people desperately need to make an authentic wok or whatever abroad for more profit.
Given that use for home cooking accounts for less than a single percent of use for natural gas and newbuilds are more likely to use electric (as it is far easier to build) this is a pretty farfetched theory.
