because i’m starting to get the feeling there’s some weird reverse psychology thing going on here where they’re trying to piss people off into doing just that so they can bitch about it more
While that is a likely consequence of their rhetoric, I don’t think it’s planned like that. I think it comes from the contradiction between their hyper-individualistic ideas and the fact that they wish to control what other people do. If we assume the well-being of an individual is purely a personal responsibility, it is very hard to force people not to be gay, etc. So they need to resort to people who are not fully individuals yet, the children, who are uniquely not on their own in the harsh reality but need to be protected by those who know better.
Haven’t right wingers been hurting their own kids ever since the 90s? Like, it’s probably hard to estimate but i’m fairly sure that the Bush admin did more damage to the long term prospect for the right by making all the protestants pull their kids out of the schooling system so as to avoid them learning about evolution or non-young-earth-creationism.
