“It’s just desert”
FUCK YOU
What do they even need a bombing range for. Thought they used Iraq and Afghanistan for testing bombs
C’mon Jack, we need to nuke those endangered cacti to ensure antifa sedition don’t destroy our record players by the nighttime when we all went together to swim in the lake, but we had no bathsuits because of the Oklanewa embargo in that summer when my father used to say “you’ll never find any better sweet potato than this”.
Here’s something most leftists don’t know. Department of Defense lands hold more endangered species than any other public land. Yes, even National Park Service. The military has to follow the little known Sikes act which requires the military to protect and enhance its natural resources and the Endangered Species Act. If military land is degraded, chances are most of that degradation happened before military training and previous land use like ranching.
Edit: Not defending this move at all but the automatic reaction to this will destroy everything is a huge overreaction.
Why do they need another one? Wasn’t the 20th century like one long arms race when a gajillion new bombs got tested? Did they lose the ones they were using in the past?
They’re not testing nukes…yet. They use it for training exercises like Red Flag (Google it).
Not defending, just explaining.
I gotcha, but I wasn’t referring to nukes, whose testing had to be stopped for the whole radioactive fallout reason. The 20th century was the age of conventional bombs - especially US bombs. So why do they need more space for testing them today than they did before??
I get they do training, but why can’t they train where they had before?
I don’t have answers for that. The NTTR is the largest range of its kind in the world, unsurprisingly.
Can’t help but think that the Dems think this is some kind of chess move that keeps this land in the hands of the gov’t, whereas the other side is probably happy to not be giving the people a public resource that they might get used to and want to defend. Also wouldn’t surprise me if later under a solidly GOP regime that the military says “we don’t actually want this land” vs the GOP goes “we tried ¯\_(ツ)_/¯” and sells it off like they really want.
Let’s bomb endangered wildlife. That seems like a good idea.
