I recently bore witness to an aunt, within twenty minutes, go on two separate rants about Ron DeSantis:

  • He hasn’t done enough to get rid of the homeless in Florida. They need a final solution to that problem.
  • He hasn’t done enough to help poor, struggling families repair their destroyed home¹ after the latest hurricane season.

¹ Home is defined as “my second McMansion on the beach that we like to spend weekends at.” Not to be confused with, “my vacation home in Banff,” or, “the lakeside cottage we sometimes summer at.”

She’s mad he’s just a crypto-fascist. Give her the real deal! :agony-consuming:

Aren’t homeless internment camps the catalyst that created the United Federation of Planets in the Star Trek cannon?

I mean, on the one hand this is the same bullshit bolovating that gave us The Wall. Just billions upon billions of dollars pissed away on projects that failed to do anything except fatten a few wallets, wreck the local ecology, and piss off a bunch of ranchers and vacation-house renters.

On the other hand, “War on Homelessness” on the eve of the next big recession sure sounds like some tasty red meat for a bunch of desperate, embattled governors and mayors looking to shore up their support among the Suburbaniti.

Just like immigrant-baiting burned as a cause du jour among Republicans long after it went out of style nationally, I can see Trump turning brutalization of the homeless into the new Anti-Woke crusade.
