Mental illness, too. Decades (centuries?) Of media lies have convinced people that mentally ill people are extremely dangerous and could start doing school shootings at any moment. The evidence that mentally ill people are any more prone to violence than neurotypicals is weak and contested, and given that mentally ill people are subjected to far more violence and poverty and abuse and discrimination than the general public it’s very likely that any increase in violence from the mentally ill is due to the trauma inflicted on them for the crime of existing rather than being caused by the mental illness itself.
