Does that thread really say that they’re getting it? I think the opposite, it says what the Dems always say, that the Dems “can’t” do anything to stop Republican nominees. Not that they won’t because they’re useless, which is the truth, but that it’s impossible because the Republicans are mean and we don’t want to be mean back.
Isn’t that the official line of the Dems? “We can’t stop them so we don’t bother doing anything to try and just sign on to all their evil legislation.”

PMC nerds and urban petty bourgies are the true base of the Democratic Party. I’m talking about the highly educated (bachelor’s degree at minimum, if they’re not still in school), NPR-listening, YIMBY urbanist gentrifiers, low- and middle-managers, and technocratic professionals here more so than I am about the armed used car dealer chuds and small business tyrants easily mobilized by Koch-funded astroturfing.
This base is the same cluster of groups for whom the “minority faces in high places” and “lean in” aspirational schtick still resonates, because they’ve by and large been lucky enough to have their efforts consistently rewarded with success. This is the sort of person for which the myth of meritocracy has never been overwhelmingly directly falsified by their own lived experience - the same liberal government and corporate bureaucrats who find a thousand subtle ways to tell the true progressives, socialists, marginalized groups, and the working class in general to fuck off and eat shit on the daily actually seem to listen to them, because this sort of person is often either a useful idiot true-believer professional groomed for consent-manufacturing, or sufficiently wealthy for their local government to listen to them at city council meetings, at minimum.
From this sheltered and insulated “middle-class” position, openly destructive figures like Trump - who’ve taken the concepts of meritocracy and a just world to wipe their asses with, actively ignoring the wishes of these people while neolibs like Obama kiss their asses before sending them them back to brunch sleep - can appear to be an aberration from the existing liberal norm rather than a product of and response to it.
