I had the drift happen with my previous mouse, never really knew why. A mousepad might fix it, I think it was reading stuff that wasn’t there on my wooden table (like the depth of the grain).

As for the click it’s probably the mechanism breaking down. I usually get the dreaded double click (a click registers as two) or the unregistered click when I start having problems with my mice.

I switched to a Zowie EC-2 mouse and I’m super happy with it. The cable feels almost non-existent and it’s recommended specifically for its durability due to having Haino switches (IIRC) that are just much more durable than the switches typically used. A bit pricy but I can likely keep it for 10 years. Only had it for 6 months though.

so there’s two possibilities - you need a new mouse or you’ve been hacked and someone is remote controlling your computer. one of these problems is much cheaper to fix than the other so I suggest trying that first.

Yeah I’d move the mouse to a front USB port and if it starts moving and clicking on its own, yank the cable. If it keeps moving and clicking on its own, install Linux.

Description fits a common failure of touch screens on laptops if that’s what you have

This is really specific, but I had a PS4 controller connected to my computer, and sometimes the touchpad would randomly send mouse inputs. It was really confusing and it took me quite a while to figure it out.
