It will be 7-2, I predict Breyer will get replaced as well in the next 4 years. Losing the supreme court will be Obama’s legacy.
Nah Pearce is totally forgettable, Obama will be remembered. First Black president is kinda a big deal even if it is idpol. Also he will be remembered as a failure that made people want more radical politics left and right
Also he will be remembered as a failure that made people want more radical politics left and right
He either won’t be remembered (if the rights win) or will be incorrectly remembered as a harbinger of radical left politics (if the radlibs or w/e win)
Obvs that’s not true but US “memory” of their history is rarely completely in touch with what actually happened
Word, kinda silly of me to think that the memory people have of his presidency will be based in reality.
He’s gonna get the jimmy carter treatment. Stuck between two right wing demons, “a good guy” but not really when you take a close look at his record.
At least to Carter’s credit he has been a pretty decent (maybe top all time?) ex-president, while Obama has been out 4 years and already made some heinous moves that make him just as negative a force as he was in office.
It’s hard to imagine a world where we have a national reckoning over Obama that isn’t full-on racist.
While in office he massively expanded drone warfare, the fledgling surveillance state truly came into being under his watch, his one piece of substantial legislation was gutted the moment he left office by the courts and legislature because he negotiated away protections that would have kept it in place in exchange for bipartisan support that he never saw.
A complete and utter failure as a president.
Having a Nobel Peace Prize on the mantle must be cool though.
The entire function of the modern democratic party as it exists under a Biden presidency is to protect the legacy of Obama. If the ACA gettiing overturned in the courts is a real risk, they’ll pack the courts, but Roberts and the other SC judges know this so they will often act accordingly.
