Skyrim actually did the whole open-world thing good, by designing the world in such a way that you get subconsciously funneled into certain locations. The bazillion Cloud Chasers didn’t do that.

The red line is the one I always took. It feels like it is much shorter, especially if you cut through behind the houses in an almost straight line. Taking paths is bourgeois decadence.

Also you don’t have to see the dump that the companions live in.
