Johnson had just won his election and was in the middle of a victory lap when COVID hit. He was relatively popular before COVID hit and he wasn’t out there flaunting denialism and touting fake cures in the six months prior.
Trump is a month out from election day, just spent the prior evening acting like a total asshole on national television, and has repeatedly insisted that COVID is “just the flu” and easily curable with fish-tank cleaner and a bleach injection.
The only thing that can wreck this for the Democrats is if they fall over themselves apologizes over how rude Twitter is being.
