It is completely inexcusable that people in STEM fields are so reactionary, considering how capitalism utterly destroys science.
If universities were actually “left wing indoctrination factories” like the right thinks they are, every STEM grad would be taught, for example, what Kropotkin had to say about innovation.
Engineers literally design the means of production. They are essential to any Communist project. There should be no liberal arts elitism or anti-STEM attitude in the left. Communism is not gonna work without competent STEM minds involved. Engineers get paid significantly more than most workers, but that doesn’t negate the fact that they’re also exploited under capitalism.
STEM people are largely materially comfortable, so they don’t mind capitalism, and they aren’t gonna stick their neck out to change the system. Simple
I think STEM people, at least in tech which is probably the most reactionary STEM field, suffer the most from the temporarily embarrassed billionaires way of thinking.
People are taught that being in STEM is a way to print money and everyone thinks they’re going to be the next Zuckerberg or Steve Jobs, etc.
The truth is that tech isn’t the Wild West anymore and you’re most likely not going to strike gold. Tech workers are being exploited the same as any other office workers, and the companies coordinate to suppress wages.
Your start up will probably only make you a millionaire if you’re already well-connected and privileged and it will be bought by one of the big 5 before you could become a billionaire.
Arent most stem leftwing libs?
