Because well, I am Asexual, and well… it is incredibly rare to find another Asexual person anywhere. Not to shame people for their interests, but I am not comfortable with a lot of posts, even if they are meant to be for a joke, implying that everyone gets horny, and/or that apparent “Peak Hedonism” or whatever it’s called, is about having lots of sex. Again, something I am not interested in.

I have seen no signs of any Asexual friendly spaces on this site, not even in the LGBTQIA+ Subcommunity for this site. Although I have been socially isolated by otherwise queer friendly spaces before, for “only” being Asexual.

It depends. Are you looking for:

  • an asexual-centric thread where you can talk about your experiences with asexuality?
  • general discussion threads where nobody is horny?
    • I find that sexuality can often be an inescapable persistent undercurrent of online discussions, which really frustrates me. this definitely happens on hexbear sometimes, but I think it’s not too bad, as you can always invoke the magic words to get that out of here
      the magic words

      volcel police!

  • or have you experienced outright ace-phobia on the site?
    • if so, use the report button or inform the mods, and they’ll purge the perpetrators

We’ve had the VoPo as part of this community’s culture since at least 2 years before this site even launched. It’s a clear enforcement of “neither horny nor a coomer be”. Or does “asexual-friendly” mean “asexual-centric”?

I have at least two ace friends and they’re great.

I definitely think ace comrades (and aro comrades too!) should get a space or regular thread somewhere for themselves, to talk and share what they want to share.

I guess there needs to be a minimum amount of people/interest in it, but I think even if it’s not many people here it should be an option.

!anti_cishet_aktion@hexbear.net has a rule against aphobia.

Feel free to post some memes from Reddit’s r/aaaaaaacccccccce or whatever — we just don’t have as many active Fediverse users to sustain active communities.

I do think Asexuals should get a space of their own. I don’t think the entire site should have to repress its sexuality when it’s already weirdly puritanical on that end. I also find it odd for asexuals to be incorporated into LGBTQ comm when sexuality is literally the defining criteria for the comm.

Because Asexual people aren’t heterosexual. Nor are they necessarily adverse to sex and sexuality. They experience and engage with sexuality differently to allosexual people. They’re not just people who are sexually repressed.

I didn’t say they were sexually repressed

I think GSM (gender and sexual minorities) is perhaps a more accurate label. The community is about being different from the cishet majority, unless you’re suggesting straight trans people should be excluded too?

I’m not sure I understand. Why wouldn’t straight trans people be part of an lgbtq comm?

Are you suggesting being trans is a sexual thing?
