this goes well with that meme talking about how like 70% of china’s youth want to be cosmonauts and scientists and like 70% of US youth want to be social media influencers and e-sports champions.

which, itself, goes well with that economist headline about how the former soviet bloc states have a “problem” where half the scientists are women due to the legacy of women in STEM making women feel “forced” to have careers in science.

if you haven’t heard the episode of Citations Needed (Episode 98: The Refined Sociopathy of The Economist), it is incredible. their archives are available but behind a massive paywall and when one sees some of their radioactive takes over the last 170 years with the power of hindsight, it becomes obvious why they did that.

you’ll never guess how the rational, reasonable liberals felt about the movement to abolish slavery!

I remember listening to the episode where they were reading NYY opinion pieces about how it’s not the right time to abolish slavery.

China’s youth, even when faced with some of the difficulties and challenges in China, are still way more motivated and reasonable and directed than most Americans. This fever-dream and delusional cover story from Time is like Olympus Mons saying the Empire State Building is too tall.

My perception of time is off because it’s a little shocking that The Economist is at least as old as Lenin.
