It really is. They’re not even doing the garage sale until tomorrow, they just had the stuff out on the lawn to sort it out. Our friend who lives directly across the street saw it and thought it would be perfect for our game room, so she talked to them. I haven’t seen what else they have yet but I’m getting up early. Apparently it was an old friend of theirs who passed that had collectibles like this and they’ve been sitting in their garage for years. Our friend said there were fridges and stuff like that under tarps, so I’m guessing they’re old branded ones like Coke. I’m going to offer them more for the gumball machine too, it’s just too cheap. They’re not old and senile or anything like that, I think they’re a little younger than me, definitely old enough to remember Blockbuster. I don’t get why it wouldn’t occur to them to list it somewhere local. Heck, we have a store called “That 80’s Retro Shop” right down the street, I’m sure they would have offered way more than $10.

Wait are these worth something? I have one of these I have been wanting to throw away.

$10 apparently. Whether or not that is worth the effort of selling is up to you.

Referring more to the people talking about how it’s such a good deal. I think $10 is pretty close to what it cost to buy from the shuttered Blockbuster a decade ago, haha.

I’m sure they have sentimental/kitch value. At the very least, I’m sure a junk shop would take it off your hands.

Oh this is computers only? Where the heck is a general “retro” community on Lemmy? It’s all tech focused.

the only general community I could find while searching is this one, but it appears to be completely empty

!vintage@lemmy.world

kinda surprised there isn’t a generic vintage type community, maybe there is one out there somewhere!

That’s cool. Yeah, I see it’s just 1 person posting right now. Maybe it needs a brigade :) Speaking of which, what is proper cross-posting etiquette on Lemmy? If I want, do I just post it there again? I’ll probably take a better pic this time, it has the lid and keys too, and that white stuff inside is old gumball pieces :)

what is proper cross-posting etiquette

if you want to cross-post the same exact image to a different community there should be a link at the top of this post to cross-post (if using the desktop web ui), it sorta looks like a copy icon

but if you wanted to use a new photo then I think just creating a new post over there is probably easiest

I’ve gone ahead and subscribed to that other community, hopefully it gains some traction. I enjoy seeing old finds from yard sales, etc

We’re going to do gumballs, maybe with some cheap toys mixed in (after I check to see if it’s a health hazard to mix them).

At least that was the first idea. Now a “mysterious 3rd possibility” is all I can think about :)

Thank you for doing your part to ensure this gumball machine lives to see at least one more rummage sale.
