Remember, EM POC only!

I finally got my internet back. It took them fucking long enough. I guess this means that I’m finally away from all of the outages that Milton gave me.

I’m still overall pissed off about… everything else that made this hurricane suck, but I’ll try to do positive vibes right now.

That aside, good day to all of my EM POC comrades!

i feel like every time racism is brought up on hexbear it’s some arcane instance of it, almost as if the entire concept of racism is reduced to some trope.

I don’t know, just don’t feel like it’s discussed in a real manner, i can’t seem to relate most of the times the topic comes up

Honestly, and I may be wrong, a lot (and by that I mean probably most )of people who leave the left, dirtbag or nazbol stupidpol types seem to come from people that have racial or lgbt animus. I just say this because if someone cracks on here thats most likely gonna be the reason. I ain’t saying its gonna be one of em but a lot of times its at the root. Intersectional things end up being the breaking point.

having a crush on someone when you know it won’t work out is awful.

I relate, but it’s a relief when you do eventually move on. A few months ago, I couldn’t stop thinking about the coworker I mention in this comment, and now, I’m like “She’s all cool and good, but we can’t be together, and that’s okay.” She’s not vegan, and I only date vegans, so oftentimes, I can just alleviate the pain of a crush I don’t want if the person I’m crushing on is non-vegan. Reminding myself of their carnism will really turn me off with enough focus. She does seem like she has a “vegan heart,” in that she gives off the vibe that she wouldn’t be difficult to convince in theory, but yeah, you could never know for sure with this kind of stuff.

Maybe unrelated but this is how I feel about the word ‘removedy’. Someone found it used to be a racialized term and others caught on that they should modify their language. Except colloquially, this term is more attributed to horror and lost the original dictionary definition(if there was one). Meanwhile, I bet these people have no problem calling something ghetto, a term more modernly racialized.

I love how I was able to use my galaxy brain to fill in the removed with enough thought.

here’s the thing, their “correction” in that example is wrong.
Article 1 of ILO Convention No. 169 contains a statement of coverage rather than a definition, indicating that the Convention applies to: “a) tribal peoples in independent countries whose social, cultural and economic conditions distinguish them from other sections of the national community and whose status is regulated wholly or partially by their own customs or traditions or by special laws or regulations; “b) peoples in independent countries who are regarded as indigenous on account of their descent from the populations which inhabited the country, or a geographical region to which the country belongs, at the time of conquest or colonization or the establishment of present state boundaries and who irrespective of their legal status, retain some or all of their own social, economic, cultural and political institutions.”

Absolutely, this “scholar” was committing an equivocation fallacy by taking a comment that refers to Indigenous people in a sociopolitical sense and responding in a way that uses the term in a more generic, often biological sense, e.g., “Pandas are indigenous to China.”

Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m’kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn’t the “one true leftism”. Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is “not real” and that if you only thought like them you’d see what your “real” identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

FAQ

I don’t look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don’t know if I can post here. Can I?

  • This place is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This includes those of mixed heritage and those who may be “white” but are of an ethnicity that is a minority in their area (i.e. Kurds, etc) If you’ve experienced oppression due to your identity that is not based on sexual / gender identification, you are welcome here.

  • Moreover, for our American audience, we have people from around the world who are “white” but are oppressed due to being a minority in their country. They are and should be welcomed here.

What can I post?

  • Anything you think is relevant to the mission of this community. Things will evolve over time.
  • Topics and things relevant to EM and POC.
